A brief look at the operating principle
Changing the supply source, monitoring insulation resistance and alerting staff are different tasks in a medical IT system. ATICS, isoMED427P, EDS and alarm panels complement one another in the selected architecture.

Which supply does ATICS select?
Source transfer, the isolating transformer and insulation monitoring are assessed together in a medical IT system. ATICS-DIO manages automatic transfer between two independent supplies and monitors input and output voltages. When the preferred source leaves the permitted voltage range, it transfers to the backup supply according to the configured conditions, provided that supply is suitable. This function differs from measuring insulation resistance on the transformer secondary. In an architecture with a separate IMD, the isoMED427P can perform that task. ATICS-ISO, however, integrates insulation monitoring; a device arrangement that unnecessarily duplicates the same monitoring task should not be recommended.
What does isoMED427P monitor?
The isolating transformer provides galvanic separation between the earthed supply and the medical IT secondary. The isoMED427 family continuously monitors the insulation resistance of this IT system. It also monitors transformer load via a suitable current transformer and overtemperature via a temperature sensor. Insulation, load and temperature alarms provide different operational information. Sensor type and temperature display depend on the variant; for example, the PT version uses PT100. An alarm does not automatically mean that supply transfer is required.
EDS and the alarm panel complete the chain
When enabled, the locating current injector in isoMED427P variants allows a compatible EDS device to search for the faulty outgoing circuit. Using suitable measuring current transformers, EDS narrows the search to the relevant circuit and complements the IMD's total resistance measurement. BMS communication and a compatible alarm panel convey measurements and audible/visual indications to the relevant staff. This approach is not a promise of safe, uninterrupted operation under every first insulation fault condition. Protection, equipotential bonding, alarm responses and maintenance must be assessed together. Transfer, insulation monitoring and feeder-level fault location
Devices in a medical IT system are selected by task. The models below help explain the integrated ATICS-ISO architecture and an approach with separate transfer and monitoring components.

ATICS®-…-ISO
Combines source transfer between two independent supplies and unearthed IT system monitoring in one device. Illustrates an architecture that considers supply and monitoring functions together in medical locations.
ATICS-ISO integrates monitoring; adding a separate IMD to the same IT system is not automatically necessary.Explore the model and documents
ATICS® DIO series
Transfers between two independent supplies, combining switching elements and control electronics. Illustrates the transfer task in architectures with separate insulation monitoring.
The DIO series' source transfer function differs in scope from ATICS-ISO's integrated IT monitoring.Explore the model and documents
ISOMETER® isoMED427
Monitors medical IT system insulation resistance and, with suitable sensors, transformer load and temperature. The P variant's locating current injector supports investigation of the faulty outgoing circuit with a compatible EDS system.
Locating current generation is provided by the P variant; check sensor and temperature measurement type for the selected version.Explore the model and documents
ISOSCAN® EDS151
Detects the locating current generated by isoMED427P using six integrated measuring current transformers and helps identify the outgoing circuit. BMS communication transfers channel and alarm information to a suitable indicator.
EDS151 complements the IMD that measures insulation resistance; it does not replace source transfer or a protective disconnection device.Explore the model and documentsNot every panel uses all these models together; transfer, IMD, EDS and alarm panel components are matched to the selected architecture.
